Offered in September, October & November
These tours are all about new discoveries and their importance to the history of America. Visitors learn fascinating, little known stories about early settlements including the Spanish Ayllon Colony. These settlers brought with them the first Africans, making their colony the place where African American history began – almost 100 years before it had been previously believed. Environmentally, an ancient island has been discovered just off shore, the Civil War salt works has been found, archaeologists have dug the Mission Santa Catalina and new finds are always on the horizon. Artifacts and radar tools are shown and a sample archaeological dig is included.
