APRIL 2018

  • Saturday, April 21
    1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Saving the Seminole Pea…The saga of outsmarting deer, the weather and other assorted hazards while saving this endangered heritage crop. Visit the National Register Ripley Farm where the peas are grown and taste the wonderful hoppin' john made from them. Truck hay ride both ways from Palmyra Barn. $7.50 
  • EARTH DAY Sunday, April 22
    10:00 – 11:30 p.m. Learn about the changing marsh. Buzzard Hammock and the trees that keep our climate enjoyable as we walk the river’s edge from Palmyra Barn. $7.50 
    3:15 – 5:15 p.m. Kayaking, $45. Wine by the pool after kayaking with complimentary hors d'oeuvres, $7/glass. We welcome paddlers 12 years-old & up who can swim. No experience required. All equipment & basic instruction included.
  • FULL MOON WEEKEND April 28-29

    • Saturday, April 28
      5:00 p.m. Plantation walkabout. Informative stroll noting highlights of how the original family from 1755 to today has managed to keep and protect this beautiful land. 
      6:45 p.m. Moonrise to watch for the big, full moon. 
      7:15 p.m. Small plate dinner at Palmyra barn. $20
      Later you may catch a glimpse of the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower believed to be the remnant of the Comet Haley which can generate up to 30 meteors/hour.

    3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Walkabout and reception. $7.50

  • MOTHER'S DAY Sunday, May 13
    7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Breakfast in bed on this, her special day. A flower and gift on each tray.
    10:00 – 4:00 p.m. MOTHER’S DAY GIFT SHOP SALE. Always fun with a thousand temptations.  
  • GARDEN SUNDAY Sunday, May 20
    10:00 a.m. Time to start thinking about how you want your winter and spring gardens to look. Garden Walk About.  Topics: What grows here naturally..on a sand dune…in the blazing sun…in the shade…deer control. Visit the Dunham Farms seed gardens where camellia seeds have been planted many ways and see how they are faring. Trees, nature's garden and how they reward us. $7.50
    11:30 a.m. Lovely Sunday Brunch of garden specialties. $20
     
  • MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND May 26 – 28

    • Saturday, May 26th
      7:30 – 9:30 a.m. Dip your kayak paddle in the cool morning tide on this lovely dawn excursion followed by a sumptuous breakfast on shore. $45 kayak, $12 breakfastWe welcome paddlers 12 years-old & up who can swim. No experience required. All equipment & basic instruction included. 
      1:00 p.m. Picnic by the pool, $12.
      2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Visit local points of interest such as Fort Morris next door.
      5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Afternoon reception.
      7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Beautiful sunset kayak paddle explores the river in the glorious afternoon light. $45. We welcome paddlers 12 years-old & up who can swim. No experience required. All equipment & basic instruction included. 

    • Sunday, May 27th
      8:00 – 10:00 a.m. Refreshing early morning paddle followed by Sunday Brunch at the barn. $45 kayak, $20 brunch. We welcome paddlers 12 years-old & up who can swim. No experience required. All equipment & basic instruction included. 
      11:00 – Noon American Indian history explored at the Retreat, $7.50
      12:30 p.m. Light lunch by reservation at The Barn. $15.
      Afternoon lawn games and movies
      5:00 p.m. Conservation talk at the Retreat. Conservation of our nearly 10,000 acres – what’s been accomplished and what are the future plans?  $7.50
      6:00 p.m. Full country dinner with farm specialties. $50

BULLETINS

  • We have bar service at Palmyra Barn and Live Oak Hall. Hours are posted in those buildings.
  • WEEKEND GUESTS, weather permitting, may enjoy free wagon rides to some of our more distant beautiful vistas. It’s bumpy and it’s fun and we stop for the best views. See posted schedule at Palmyra Barn. We also give free guided walking tours daily and guests enjoy discounts on kayak excursions.
  • Guests staying over two or more nights will receive a 10% discount on room rates during their stay. Guests also may call on us to make dinner suggestions, arrange reservations, or even book an offshore boat trip to the islands.
  • Enjoy a meeting at Dunham Farms, a plantation tour, luncheon or tea with your club, or even small groups outings for 6 or more. We love providing special service and a different and interesting day for our guests. Just ask. We customize for your enjoyment.
